SABRE 24kV SF₆ Gas Insulated

Sabre ring main units are designed for secondary distribution networks up to 24kV. The range is an ideal solution for indoor/outdoor compact substations and is available in non-extensible, extensible and modular formats to suit various application requirements. All of the switching functions are insulated with SF₆ gas and sealed in a stainless-steel tank

Featuring the most advanced vacuum switching technology, the units are compact, flexible and easy to operate and install. The Sabre range is fully weatherproof for outdoor use, has a long service life and requires virtually no maintenance in the most extreme conditions.

The transformer protection is by a vacuum circuit breaker. On request, the units can be supplied with integrated automation for remote monitoring and control functions.

Cable boxes are located laterally or at the rear of the ring main unit. Factory mounted protection CTs are provided on the circuit breaker cable bushings for ease of installation and to avoid any potential damage to the CT during transit and connection. For additional operator safety, the cable boxes are earthed and can be interlocked to allow access to the operator only if the function is in the Earth ON position.

The structural tank welding is performed by a robotic welding process ensuring high reliability with a product life expectancy of more than 30 years. The housing is fully treated using zinc-coated steel and electrostatically applied oven-cured paint to resist degradation from pollution and harsh climatic conditions.

All of the switching functions are insulated with SF₆ gas and sealed in a stainless-steel tank with a leakage rate of less than 0.1% per year.

The operating mechanism of the ring switches and circuit breaker incorporates mechanical interlocks and padlocking facilities which make it impossible to simultaneously close the ring switch/circuit breaker and the earth switch. Anti-reflex mechanisms on ring switches ensure a time delay between switching operations.

Automation

Sabre can be configured with a Lucy Gemini 3 RTU. A highly flexible, general-purpose Remote Terminal Unit designed to remotely monitor and control medium and high voltage switchgear. Sabre units coupled with a Gemini 3 offer full Automatic Transfer Scheme support. This provides the rapid and reliable transfer of the system from one power source to another, in the event of normal source failure. The result is an added layer of reliability in the power supply.

Trident 15.5kV Oil Insulated

Trident is a high-quality IEC Standard 15.5kV outdoor oil insulated ring main unit for rural and industrial environments. The Trident series of fused ring switches are rated 630 amps, they are designed to have an extremely long service life and require very low levels of service.

Oil insulated fuse protection ring main unit is designed for harsh and corrosive environmental conditions they are compact in design and are fully system extendable, utilising modular ring switches and fused circuit breaker.

Simple installation is possible from lateral and rear cable termination points on the units which facilitate efficient connection and commissioning procedures.

The standard offering is locally controlled but automation can be achieved with remote control and seamless integration with SCADA systems.

The free-standing IP54 housing is designed to cope with the most extreme conditions from -10°C to a maximum of 55°C with humidity up to 100% including corrosive environments such as oil fields and mining applications.

The main housing of the unit is fabricated from 4mmm steel which is shot blasted, zinc sprayed, and then coated with an epoxy powder paint finish for durable outdoor or indoor use.

The operating mechanisms are of the independent manual spring type for both Main and Earth switches ensuring that speed of operation is independent of the operator. Ring switches are fault make, load break three-position type ‘ON’, ‘OFF’, and ‘EARTH ON’. The fused tee-off is of the fault make, fault break, three-position type ‘ON’, ‘OFF’ and ‘TRANSFORMER EARTH ON’. The fuse switch has a double isolation feature for additional operational safety.
